In addition to the extraordinary scenic beauty, the area is of great geological interest: the clear glacial modelling of the territory is accompanied by a very ancient history linked to volcanic activity. In fact, hidden in these mountains are the so-called 'lava pillows', rock formations created by underwater eruptions millions of years ago, which are visible on the surface today.
