il fiume che scorre tra Croazia, Slovenia e Italia, \u00e8 da sempre considerato uno tra i pi\u00f9 interessanti fenomeni carsici ed \u00e8 oggetto di studio per scienziati e speleologi. Ci\u00f2 in virt\u00f9 del suo corso in parte sotterraneo e del fatto che si divida e si ingrossi con modalit\u00e0 ancora oggi sconosciute. Il Timavo, infatti, presenta un lungo tratto sotterraneo di quasi 40 chilometri che, dalle grotte di San Canziano in Slovenia, passando per l&#8217;Abisso di Trebiciano, riemerge nel paese di San Giovanni di Duino, per poi sfociare, dopo circa 2 chilometri, nel Golfo di Trieste. Le risorgive sono un luogo molto suggestivo, visitabile a piedi con estrema facilit\u00e0. L&#8217;acqua sgorga limpida nei pressi della chiesa gotica di San Giovanni in Tuba, in un&#8217;area verdeggiante da cui partono diversi sentieri interessano, in particolare il fatto che presenti un tratto sotterraneo di 39 chilometri, in cui scorre in profondit\u00e0 per poi riemergere da tre bocche nei pressi di Trieste.\n<h5>PERCORSO E CARATTERISTICHE<\/h5>\nIl fiume Timavo scorre per quasi 90 km attraversando Croazia, Slovenia ed Italia. Si inabissa nei pressi delle grotte di San Canziano in Slovenia, passando per l&#8217;Abisso di Trebiciano. Ricompare in superficie nel paese di San Giovanni di Duino, per poi sfociare nel Golfo di Trieste dopo un paio di chilometri.\n<h5>LA STORIA DELLE ESPLORAZIONI<\/h5>\nIl mistero del Timavo \u00e8 studiato da millenni tanto da essere menzionato da Virgilio nell&#8217;Eneide. Per anni studiosi, scienziati e speleologi si sono calati nell&#8217;Abisso di Trebiciano, una delle \u201cfinestre&#8221; sul Timavo sotterraneo, ovvero, una delle profonde grotte sul cui fondo scorrono le acque del fiume.\nNei giorni nostri, La Societ\u00e0 Adriatica di Speleologia ha promossso la \u201cTimavo System Exploration\u201d un progetto finalizzato all&#8217;esplorazione del corso sotterraneo del fiume attraverso le sue diverse finestre: l\u2019Abisso di Trebiciano, l\u2019Abisso dei Serpenti, la Grotta del Lago, l\u2019Abisso dei Colombi. In epoca paleocristiana, in prossimit\u00e0 di quella che oggi \u00e8 la bocca pi\u00f9 attiva, venne edificata una basilica, di cui ancora oggi si conservano un muro e un mosaico. L&#8217;edificio attuale fu costruito tra il 1399 e il 1472, per volere dei signori di Duino, e rappresenta un&#8217;importante testimonianza dell&#8217;architettura di stile tardo-gotico in Friuli Venezia Giulia.
