About this place
The Julius Kugy Alpine House hut is conveniently located in the center of Valbruna and offers the possibility of dining or stopping to sleep within walking distance of the services offered by the Val Saisera area. Thus, in addition to walks in the village, one can easily reach cross-country trails or slopes, take part in local events, or go to the nearby children’s snow park.

Landscape
Val Saisera is a beautiful mountain valley, surrounded by the peaks of the Julian Alps and guarded by the massifs of Jôf Fuart and Jôf di Montasio. The area is well known to backcountry skiers and snowshoers because it has special climatic characteristics, being very cold and with lots of precipitation. This ensures that there is no shortage of snow in this valley.

The Kugy’s cuisine offers homemade specialties presented in a gourmet guise. In fact, Friulian or Austrian dishes are revisited in a refined key and enriched with spices and gravies. The result is a refined and tasty cuisine. A must-try is the herb dumpling roll.
OVERNIGHT STAY
The Kugy shelter has 26 beds divided into double, twin, 4-bed and 6-bed rooms, or dormitories.
OTHER SERVICES.
The lodge has an outdoor garden, where you can have lunch in warm weather; offers free WiFi; has a bicycle shelter.
The Kugy is part of the Girarifugi circuit.
Opening period
Since it is a shelter located in the village, the Kugy is open year-round except for short periods in spring and fall. Visitors have the opportunity to admire the Saisera Valley in fine weather and in winter with snow.

- Mount Lussari cable car: Mount Lussari, with its stunning views of the Julian and Carnic Alps, can be easily reached by cable car or by taking the scenic Pilgrim’s Path.
- Other refuges: trails to the Pellarini refuge and the Grego refuge start from Val Saisera.
- Alpe Adria Ciclovia: Valbruna is a stopover place on the Salzburg to Grado Ciclovia.

Getting there and parking
The Kugy Shelter is located among the houses at the beginning of the village of Valbruna.
PARKING
- Shelter parking: located in the garden in front of the entrance. Usable only in summer.
- Parking in the Village: free parking in the village is possible, but not easy. Places are few, often occupied and pitches very small.
- Parking outside the village: a 15-minute walk from the village, you can leave your car in the large parking lot at the Snowpark, at a cost of 5 euros for 24 hours.
