In Resia Valley, in the context of the Julian Pre-Alps Natural Park, one can explore a secluded place, a magical clearing enclosed on three sides by vertical rock walls, from which the waters of the Barman stream plummet, forming a waterfall composed of several jets of water. The crystal-clear waters of the stream plunge about 70 meters with a major roar, contributing to the enchantment of this place. The path to reach it is short and easy, and everyone, even children, can appreciate its wild charm.
Although it is only a 15-minute walk from the parking lot, the waterfall is located in a hidden, wild place where nature has not been altered by man.
The waters of the stream plummet about 70 meters and plunge with a great roar into a crystal clear pool. The waterfall consists of multiple branches that create a spectacular effect.
The base of the fountain can be easily reached by everyone via a simple path. Alternatively, experienced hikers can ascend a forest path to its summit.
An easy walk through the beech forest leads to the point closest to the base of the Barman Brook waterfall. The path is dirt, but beaten; only in the last section does the bottom become uneven due to stones. The trail leads all the way to the stream, which in case of flow, does not allow you to reach the base of the waterfall. In dry periods you can cross the stream and approach the fountain.
The trail is easy and suitable for all who are equipped with footwear suitable for the stony ground. The elevation difference is minimal and it is easily traversed through the coolness of the forest.
The trail, which can also be walked in loops, ascends the relief alongside the fountain and offers a beautiful view of the valley, but is reserved for experienced hikers or those accompanied by a guide. It is taken along the trail to the base of the waterfall, with a detour to the right. When you reach the top, the landscape is wild: the stream gushes between large boulders and plunges 70 meters into the valley. As there is no protection, it is not possible to approach the waterfall drop. Going up the stream for a few more stretches you can reach some vertical walls, and admire the highly polished rocks eroded by water and weather phenomena.
The trail, especially in the last part, is technical, exposed and dangerous, and is suitable only for experienced hikers or if accompanied by a licensed guide.
Going up the gully in the upstream part of the waterfall, the entrance to a cave can be seen. This is the “Hurricane Cave,” traversed internally by a branch of the waters of the Barman stream. The cavity is not open to the public, but is being explored by speleological groups. Its bizarre name comes from the deafening din produced by the internal waters, which is sometimes so loud that communication between cavers is not possible, even shouting.
Fountains are by definition torrential streams that can be subject to flash floods. In the case of the Barman fountain there is this danger and consequently it is necessary to visit it in the absence of rain. It is also warned that the path upstream of the waterfall is not touristy, has exposed sections on the precipice and a rough and slippery bottom.
Finally, ticks are reported to be present in the spring, summer and fall months, and protection with tick sprays and opaque clothing is recommended.
Yes, it is possible through a loop trail in the forest, but it is not recommended for inexperienced people.
No, it is not possible to go behind the waterfall, but during dry periods it is possible to cross the stream by reaching its base.
Yes, the path leading near the fountain is safe and can be walked by everyone, even children who have the proper footwear for the uneven ground. The trail is not suitable for strollers. The trail to the top of the waterfall, however, is suitable only for experienced hikers.
