
The Sorgenti del Piave refuge rises in the Carnic Alps, in the Sesis Valley, on the slopes of Mount Peralba; specifically, the evocative name makes it clear that it is located near the Source of the Piave River. The roads are those of the Great War, on the Italian-Austrian border line. The refuge offers a catering service with typical products related to Sappada cuisine and that of neighboring Austria.
This refuge is reached by car via a convenient paved road. It can be reached from Cima Sappada in about 20 minutes. Perfect for a lunch in the mountains.
A few meters from the refuge is the source of the Piave River, a spring from which a rivulet flows to form the first section of the river.
Due to its neuralgic location, the hut is ideal for lunch for those who want to explore the surrounding area, the Great War trails or the Olbe Lakes.
The Sorgenti del Piave refuge is a beautiful structure surrounded by pastures where cows roam freely.
The area is a destination for many tourists attracted by the countless excursions that can be made. Among the best known are the Olbe lakes, the trail to the Calvi hut, ascents to Mt. Peralba, Mt. Chiadenis, Mt. Lastroni and Mt. Avanza, as well as the traverse of the Dolomite High Route no. 6 and the interesting Route of the Forts of the Great War.
The Sorgenti del Piave refuge offers a catering service with 70 seats inside, in the characteristic refuge environment, and another 20 outside. The cuisine is traditional with typical products.
The lodge also has a number of overnight rooms for a total of 15 beds.
The opening period is roughly from mid-May to early October, when the road is open and passable.
In the immediate vicinity of the hut are
finds the resurgence of the Piave River. A small stream starts from the bowl and gives life to the initial stretch of the river.
The Flame of Peace, an Austrian-Italian monument erected in 2015, and a votive chapel are also located here.
The Sorgenti del Piave refuge is located 8.5 km from Cima Sappada and can be reached by car in about 20 minutes. Parking is convenient and ample.
A free shuttle service to the Sorgenti del Piave is available from late July to about mid-September, with reservations required at the Sappada Infopoint Promoturismo FVG.
During winter the road is closed; it is passable approximately from mid-May to early October.
