Admiring the Sappada valley and the Dolomite panorama from the terrace of Refuge 2000 is an indelible memory for those passing through or staying in the area. The hut is an excellent base for a day trip to the Olbe Lakes or Mount Lastroni, crossing World War I fortifications. For those who want to relax, the hut has a sauna; for sportsmen, it is located at the end point of the ski slope, as well as being a hub for many mountain-bike routes and a base for paragliders.
On sunny spring and summer days, the shelter and views are outstanding. In winter, with the snow-capped mountains, the view is even more impressive. Priceless is being there with few people around and enjoying the silence of this enchanted place.
From the hut’s panoramic terrace, the Sappada basin surrounded by the Dolomite theater, in which many important peaks can be seen, can be clearly distinguished. Why not relax on a deck chair in the sun admiring these peaks?
The solarium and sauna, the Dolomite panorama and more. Refuge 2000 accommodates sportsmen, such as skiers, mountain bikers and paragliders, and hikers, with trails suitable for everyone or longer, more challenging paths.
Refuge 2000 is not only a place to relax, it is also a focal point for hikers of all levels.
Starting with short walks, such as the one to the summit of Mount della Piana, longer routes can be forked, such as the one to reach the Sorgenti del Piave refuge. Wonderful is the visit to the Olbe lakes, less than an hour away. Other beautiful hikes, among many others, include the summit of M. Lastroni, with exploration of the forts from the 15/18 war, and the elevation trail to the Monte Ferro refuge which can also be done in a loop.
Refuge 2000 is open daily from early June to early September and from December to mid-March. Opening periods are approximate; contact managers for more precise information.
Shelter 2000 offers complete hospitality with almost hotel-like service. Rooms are simply furnished, like more traditional lodges, but equipped with everything you need, including sheets and towels. In addition, there is something unique in this lodge, a sauna accessible to all guests, which makes the stay even more enjoyable and allows you to relax at an altitude of 2,000 meters.
The dizzying chairlift ride from Sappada to the refuge makes the day even more lively. The chairlift consists of 2 sections, with a gearbox at 1655 m elevation. During the summer, the chairlift is an ideal choice to avoid the long and strenuous walk uphill. Surely it is more fun to climb the steep rock face with the 2-passenger cable car, which literally climbs up the mountain, and conserve your strength for the beautiful hikes that can be done at high altitude. The opening schedule of the chairlift varies every year in both summer and winter, and sometimes it operates only on weekends.
In Sappada park your car near the chairlift, in free parking lots or in paid parking lots.
Ascend via the two-seater chairlift. Walking uphill is not recommended because it is long and monotonous compared to the routes that can be taken on arrival. For those who go to the Olbe Lakes during the summer, the alternative for the downhill can be to walk down the ski slope.
The chairlift operates only in summer and winter. The opening schedule of the chairlift varies every year and sometimes operates only on weekends.
The price of the chairlift is 8 euros one way or 10 euros round trip.
The cuisine of this lodge differs greatly from the others; it is not typical lodge cuisine, but offers grittier dishes suited to the many sportsmen and women by whom it is frequented. Highlights are the meats and the excellent burgers and cheeseburgers.
The Olbe lakes can be easily reached in 45 min/1 h via CAI trails 140 and 138, on a dirt road, with an elevation gain of almost 200 m.
